The turnout was a very large crowd, making the event a standing room only affair at the HackerSpace. There were all sorts of differnet makers in the crowd, from folk who create cardboard strucure, homemade natural products, 3D printing, sustainable living, and we are probably only scratching the surface here. (Full list of the speakers and topics here)
First up was William himself sharing about the genesis of the Singapore Maker group, the rise of the Maker culture in Singapore (and globally). Lots of notions about how we are shifting towards a future where there will be a rise of ground up innovation and the culture of making stuff.
There was also the idea of creating a hardware makerspace or FabLab in Singapore, a topic which very deeply resonates with us too. And there’s a social element to boot! 😉
Also, the was the official announcement that this year’s Singapore Mini Maker Faire! It’s gonna be on 27-28 July 2013 (Sat and Sun) though the location is yet to be annouced:
But if last year’s edition is any indication, it will be a smashing event again and something we’ll be looking forward to being a bigger part of! Do follow their Facebook page and website to be kept updated on the latest information on that as it comes out! 😉
We should have probably have taken more photos of the other speakers but we got too engrossed (and actually kind of lazy by then) so guess here is where we get to say “you should have been there” 😉
By the way, the next MakerSG Meetup seems to be set for March 14 (PI Day!) so done miss out on it. More info on that here:
