Finding the right STL file in a directory chock-full of them is a common bugbear for most of us dealing with 3d modelling and 3d printing. Luckily, it seems like there are enough of us annoyed by that that some good folks over at the Robo3D Forums had found a quick way to install some software to give enable STL file preview in right in your Windows Explorer!
So you can go from this:
to something like this (when viewing at Medium or larger sized icons):
